Carol's Prom and Kayla's Life in the Military

Last night Carol and her boyfriend, Dylan, went to their first prom. As I was taking pictures of Carol and her friends it occurred to me that Josh and I went to our first prom ten years ago! That does not even seem possible! Carol looked beautiful! She said they had a great time!

Kayla finally made it to Fort Sill early Thursday morning. She arrived at the airport in Oklahoma Wednesday morning and had to stay there all day in the Military Welcome Center until it was time to ride the bus to Fort Sill. She was the first person in the welcome center. A bad storm moved through Oklahoma Wednesday and delayed the bus from 6:00 pm until 10:30 pm. She arrived at Fort Sill after midnight but by the time she was off the bus and to her new home (at least for the next week) it was about 2:00 Thursday morning. The drill sergeants then woke them up again at 4:00 am. Only two hours of sleep! They have spent much of their time this first week getting shots, blood drawn, seeing the dentist, getting uniforms, and working out business and financial matters. She is allowed to have her phone this first week while they are in "reception." I have been able to get pictures and hear all about her days! I am so happy to get to hear everything! They have done their fair share of marching, singing, and push-ups. She is set to head out to boot camp on Wednesday. They will move all of their things and get new drill sergeants. She has made some friends, but she did say this is going to be a long 9 weeks of boot camp (which doesn't actually start until Wednesday, so it is more like 10 weeks altogether). So far she has told me of instances of them doing push-ups for looking at the TV that was on in the cafeteria and not taking their battle buddies with them everywhere they go. She said the push-ups are hard because they have to hold the positions for extended periods of time. If anyone can do it, I know she can! She was on fire guard her first night there from 3:00 am - 4:00 am. This meant she had to stay awake and walk around the room to make sure everyone was accounted for and asleep in their bed. She also had to document if anyone got up or if anyone came into the room. This also meant she had to wake up at 3:00 am instead of 4:00 am. Kayla says the room is so cold that she sleeps with her head under her blankets (or lack there of).

Shoes for the next 9 weeks!

This weekend they were allowed to sleep until 6:00 am instead of 4:00 am. They were also allowed to chill out a little bit as they are now finished with most of the "housekeeping" things and are waiting to go on to boot camp. I know she must have enjoyed the slight break. I'm counting down the days and looking forward to seeing her at her graduation!
